BREAKING: I pushed for Fubara’s removal before Tinubu’s intervention – Wike

Mr. Nysom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has said he is displeased with the recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

According to Wike, he had pushed for the outright removal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara before President Bola Tinubu’s intervention.

The former governor of Rivers State said this during a media parley held in Abuja on Friday, where he addressed ongoing political developments in his home state as well as in the FCT and the country at large.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers, citing growing political instability and rising security concerns.

As part of the emergency measures, the Mr. Tinubu suspended Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all members of the state House of Assembly for six months.

He appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) to manage the affairs of the State, a decision which is still being criticized by concerned stakeholders.

While speaking at the media parley, Wike revealed that he had pushed for the complete removal of Fubara from office.

“As a politician, I am not happy with the declaration of Emergency Rule in Rivers state. I wanted the outright removal of the governor. But for the interest of the state, the president did the right thing to prevent anarchy in the state,” Wike said.

He added: “The matter is in court but people must say the truth. The governor was gone. It is not in my place to make it good for the governor. As a politician, my business is not to make him comfortable and that is why there is power plane.”
