BREAKING: May Agbamuche-Mbu Takes Over As Acting INEC Chairman

(DDM) – Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Anambra State, George Moghalu, has declared that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo is fully aware that he will not return for a second term after the November 8, 2025 gubernatorial election.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Moghalu made the statement while reflecting on his long-standing political experience and the history he shares with Soludo, whom he said once supported his earlier bid for the same position in 2003.

According to Moghalu, his past interactions with Soludo reveal that the incumbent governor once had faith in his ability to govern Anambra State effectively and to win a competitive election.

He recalled that during his first gubernatorial race under the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Soludo not only endorsed his ambition but also made a financial contribution to his campaign.

“In 2003, when I first ran for governor under the ANPP platform, Governor Soludo supported me and even donated generously to my campaign,” Moghalu said.

“This shows that he believed not just in my capacity to govern, but in my ability to win elections,” he added.

Moghalu noted that he secured over 179,000 votes in that contest, finishing second behind Peter Obi, who won with over 230,000 votes, a result that positioned him as a formidable force in Anambra’s political landscape.

He argued that two decades later, the political tide has shifted again, this time in favour of the Labour Party, and that Governor Soludo’s record in office has alienated many of his initial supporters.

According to Moghalu, the poor performance of Soludo’s administration and the increasing popularity of the Labour Party among Anambra citizens are critical factors that would work decisively against the governor’s re-election bid.

“Governor Soludo, deep down, knows he will not return as governor after the November 8 election,” Moghalu declared confidently.

“This is largely because of the growing acceptability of our party, the Labour Party, across the state, and also because of his poor performance in office,” he said.

He further asserted that his personal experience, administrative background, and grassroots connections would give him a strong advantage at the polls.

“Everyone on the ballot knows my capacity,” he added. “Not just as an administrator, but as a politician who understands the people and the field.”

Political observers note that Moghalu’s bold statement signals what could become one of the most competitive governorship contests in Anambra since 2003, with the Labour Party seeking to replicate the momentum it achieved during the 2023 general elections under Peter Obi’s leadership.

Analysts say Soludo’s administration has faced criticism over issues such as infrastructure, unemployment, and political discontent among public servants, all of which could shape the electoral dynamics in November.

Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is reportedly strategizing to consolidate its base ahead of the poll, insisting that Soludo remains the best candidate to sustain Anambra’s economic and infrastructural transformation.

Moghalu, however, maintains that the people’s mood has changed and that the Labour Party is now positioned to take over governance in the state.

“The truth is that the people of Anambra are ready for a new chapter,” he said. “And that new chapter begins in November.”
