BREAKING: NNPP expels Abdulmumin Jibrin

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency.

The party accused him of engaging in anti-party activities and defaulting on his financial obligations.

The announcement was made in Kano on Saturday by the state NNPP chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa.

He told journalists that the decision followed Jibrin’s repeated attacks against the party and its leadership in public.

This development comes just 24 hours after Jibrin hinted he might leave the NNPP.

Speaking in a media interview, he said Nigerians should not be surprised if he chose to dump the party.

He also stressed that he was old enough to decide his political future without external pressure.

Dungurawa, however, dismissed Jibrin’s claims of political strength.

He described the lawmaker as a weak politician who only won his seat because of the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform.

“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC,” the chairman said.

“But he failed there. It was only after he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he succeeded. Now he is deceiving himself by thinking he is strong.”

He further explained that the party had initially set up a reconciliation committee after Jibrin’s interview on Channels Television.

However, instead of embracing dialogue, Jibrin granted another interview that party leaders said undermined NNPP’s interests.

“Rather than cooperate, he openly declared loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add to our structure,” Dungurawa stated.

The NNPP chairman also accused Jibrin of failing to pay his mandatory party dues. He warned that the party would take legal action to recover the money.

“It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues. He has consistently defaulted, and we will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party,” he said.

On speculations that Jibrin may return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa maintained that such a move would not weaken the NNPP.

According to him, politics is about coalitions and the Kwankwasiyya movement remains united behind its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

With the expulsion now official, observers believe Jibrin’s next political move could reshape his career.

His future, however, may depend on whether he rejoins the APC or aligns with another opposition coalition ahead of 2027.
