Building Collapse in Ebute Meta, Lagos Leaves 4 Dead, 6 Rescued

A three-storey building collapsed on Friday evening at No. 325, Bornu Street, Ebute Meta, Lagos State, resulting in four confirmed deaths and six people rescued alive, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said.

LASEMA director of operations, Olatunde Akinsanya, said the agency received a distress call at around 6:00 p.m. and immediately dispatched rescuers. Multiple agencies coordinated the response, including the Lagos State Building Control Agency, the Fire Service, the Police, and the Federal Road Safety Corps.

Akinsanya noted that while the building housed several occupants at the time of collapse, the prompt intervention helped prevent additional loss of life. He appealed to the public to remain calm, affirming that state equipment and response teams are capable of managing emergencies of this type.

The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined. Investigators have been deployed to examine structural integrity, potential building violations, and whether the materials used and construction adhered to approved plans.
