Cabal still trying to sabotage our refinery, says Dangote

President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has revealed that powerful interests within Nigeria’s oil and gas Sector are still working against the success of his $20 billion refinery project.

While speaking at an investor forum in Lagos on Friday, May 2, Africa’s richest man said those who previously profited from the country’s fuel import subsidies are now aggressively attempting to sabotage the refinery located in Lekki, Lagos.

“For a very long time, those who made huge profits from government-subsidised fuel imports have been working to obstruct the operations of the refinery,” Dangote said.

He further alleged that these groups are also behind the opposition by Bola Tinubu administration’s decision to remove petrol subsidies, adding that they have tried to make it difficult for the refinery to operate smoothly.

Despite the challenges, Dangote expressed unwavering confidence that he would prevail.

“We are still fighting, and the battle isn’t over yet. But I’ve spent my entire life fighting, and I’m fully confident that I will emerge victorious,” he stated.

The Dangote Refinery, which began selling petrol in September 2024, has significantly impacted Nigeria’s fuel import levels.
