Napoli have opened the door for Chelsea to snap up Alejandro Garnacho by igniting their pursuit of alternative targets.

The Serie A leaders have been locked in negotiations with Manchester United officials ever since their opening £40 million proposal was rebuffed last week. Key figures from either club then met in Milan to try and hash out a deal face-to-face – but finished their meeting without finding a breakthrough.

While they still retain their interest, Napoli have begun scouring the market for suitable alternatives as they frantically search for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s successor.

It’s even thought that United lowered their asking price to around £55m, having previously been demanding upwards of £60m to sanction the exit of their academy graduate, whose sale would generate pure profit.

Should Garnacho wish to remain in the Premier League but take on a new venture away from M16, Chelsea are waiting in the wings, mulling over a potential approach for the 20-year-old.

After exclusively revealing that the Naples-based outfit were now targeting Karim Adeyemi, Fabrizio Romano added that ‘Chelsea are also weighing up a formal proposal’ for Garnacho.

From the United faithful’s point of view, INEOS should increase their demands for the eight-cap Argetine international if it looks as though he could be moving to a direct rival. Chelsea have proven on numerous occasions under Todd Boehly that they’re capable of paying over the odds for up-and-coming talents, so the Reds simply have to make the most of their interest and gauge how far they’re willing to go.

Until then, Garnacho remains at Ruben Amorim’s disposal and will likely feature in tomorrow night’s Europa League clash against Rangers.
