Chukwuemeziem calls for end to violent agitation, says it serves as cover for Fulani herdsmen

The President of Igbo Youths in Diaspora, Mr. Chukwuemeziem Ekete has said that violent or armed agitations in the Southeast of Nigeria aids Fulani militia attacks.

He made the statement while briefing newsmen on the planning of the Igbo Youths in Diaspora summit.

The summit is aimed to address the numerous killings of Igbos being orchestrated by Fulani herdsmen.

Also, he condemned recent reports of attacks and kidnappings in Imo State, blaming the escalating violence on a failure to curb criminal elements operating under the guise of herders.

Chukwuemeziem said: “We are coming and we will address the killings in Alaigbo by any means possible within the confines of the law of the country. If it involves pressuring state legislatures to make a law to combat the killings, we will definitely do that.

“We are preparing for this important summit, and we are doing it in a way that will effectively give us result. The organising is going on smoothly and we have not met any difficulties or barrier. We are moving in the right direction.

“We will hold the maiden summit in London, and we will immediately commence the building of the structures needed to effect and implement our ideas.

“Last week, we heard the report of Fulani herdsmen attacks, and unfortunate kidnapping of citizens of Nigeria in Alaigbo, specifically in Imo State. We cannot continue to watch invaders destroy our properties and lives.

“The summit will also address violent and armed agitations by our people back home. We need to communicate with them, and they need to understand that they are giving Fulani herdsmen the opportunity to come in. Fulani herdsmen also took advantage of the violence, and carrying out their ulterior motives.

“The summit will be comprehensive and bold. The time has come for action, because we have no other home to go to. We won’t stay forever in Diaspora and we can’t afford to lose our ancestral lands to invaders”
