COPDEM launches nationwide call for election monitors in 2027 DDM News

(DDM) – The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) has launched an ambitious campaign to recruit Nigerians committed to safeguarding the nation’s democratic future.
The movement, unveiled this week, seeks to mobilize volunteers who will help monitor elections, provide real-time results, and expose irregularities across Nigeria’s 120,000 polling units.
COPDEM leaders said the effort is designed to restore public confidence in the electoral process, strengthen credibility, and guarantee transparent outcomes in the 2027 general elections.
According to the group, achieving this goal will “transform the electoral system, give COPDEM members massive credibility, restore public trust, and guarantee election credibility.”
The coalition plans to effectively cover 120,000 polling units, 8,813 electoral wards, and 774 local government areas nationwide.
To join the movement, interested citizens are urged to register through the official portal: www.copdem.org/register, or contact the organization’s office lines at 08062557980 and 07040668516.
COPDEM emphasized that the initiative is not limited to political activists but open to everyday Nigerians committed to democratic integrity.
Applicants will be required to download COPDEM’s Election Manager App, a tool designed to digitize result collection and instantly track outcomes from across Nigeria.
Organizers say the technology-driven system will ensure election observers can verify results in real time, blocking attempts at manipulation or rigging.
“The credibility of our democracy depends on citizen action,” the group stated. “With unity, transparency, and vigilance, Nigerians can finally guarantee free and fair elections.”
The coalition is specifically looking for individuals passionate about Nigeria’s democratic survival and ready to commit time during election periods.
They argue that without citizen monitoring, political elites will continue to manipulate outcomes and erode trust in governance.
By mobilizing a vast grassroots network, COPDEM hopes to create what it calls “a credible citizen shield” for democracy.
Political analysts note that the initiative comes at a time of growing disillusionment with Nigeria’s electoral process.
Past elections have been marred by allegations of vote-buying, ballot snatching, and result falsification.
Observers believe the project could redefine election monitoring in Africa’s largest democracy if executed successfully.
The group says registration takes less than three minutes, and volunteers will receive training and orientation ahead of the polls.
“Let’s work together to build a stronger, more democratic Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
