Cubana Chief Priest Laments Failing Health Sector in Nigeria After Illness

Nigerian socialite and businessman, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has decried the state of healthcare in the country after sharing his frustrating experience at two Lagos hospitals.
In a series of Instagram posts, Chief Priest said he walked into a hospital in Ikoyi he had used for years but, after over an hour, no doctor was available. “Honestly healthcare is a joke in this country. After vitals it’s over an hour plus & no doctor is available,” he wrote, explaining he withheld the hospital’s name out of respect for business concerns.
The nightlife promoter added that at another hospital in Lekki, he was made to fill a lengthy online form before seeing a doctor. He eventually resorted to purchasing medication for typhoid and malaria at Medplus, with the receipt showing a bill of ₦766,950.
“It’s a shame sha, na God dey save person for this country,” he lamented, noting that he relies on the UK for proper medical care. He further told followers he would be focusing on “prayers, business, family & medications in the next few weeks” while recovering.
The incident has reignited public debate over Nigeria’s underfunded health sector, where poor infrastructure and high medical costs continue to push many citizens toward medical tourism abroad.
