Dangote Truck Crushes Five to Death in Ogun After Brake Failure

A Dangote Cement truck has killed five people after losing control and crashing into a tricycle along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The fatal accident happened around 8:25 p.m. on Friday at the Alapoka axis of the road.

According to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the truck reportedly suffered brake failure before it rammed into the tricycle carrying the victims.

TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi confirmed the tragedy on Saturday.

He said the truck, with registration number GRZ 767 XA, crushed all five passengers in the unregistered tricycle to death on the spot.

“According to an eyewitness, the truck driver didn’t realize he had hit the tricycle until its tyres completely flattened it, killing everyone inside,” Akinbiyi said.

Following the incident, TRACE Acting Head Adedayo Omonayajo and the Ilaro Divisional Commander Salako Idowu led a rescue operation to the scene.

However, angry residents reportedly attempted to attack the officials before members of the Amotekun Corps intervened and restored calm.

The bodies of the victims were later taken to the morgue by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

This is not the first time a Dangote truck has been linked to a fatal accident. In late 2024, Big Brother Naija star Phyna publicly accused the company after one of its trucks allegedly killed her sister.

In another crash that same year across Lagos and Ogun, four people died and seven were injured when a Dangote truck also suffered brake failure.
