Deadly attack in Kwara claims Seven lives

Ilesha-Baruba, Kwara State – April 22, 2025 – Armed assailants stormed Ilesha-Baruba on Sunday night, killing seven people in a brutal attack. The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident and immediately deployed additional security forces to the area.

According to police spokesperson Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, roughly ten gunmen invaded the Ilesha-Baruba Motor Park around 9:30 PM, opening fire on civilians at a nearby relaxation spot. Among the victims were Alhaji Ja’awire, AbdulJabar, and Mohammed Nasamu, while two others suffered severe injuries and are now hospitalized. Authorities have transferred the deceased to the Ilesha-Baruba Morgue for autopsies.

Following the attacks, police arrested an alleged bandit informant who provided key intelligence. Investigators are now pursuing leads while tactical units increase patrols and surveillance. The police reassured residents that operations will continue until stability returns.

Authorities urged community members to remain alert and report suspicious activities immediately. They also warned that anyone aiding criminals will face strict legal consequences. Cooperation between citizens and security forces remains critical in combating these threats.

Meanwhile, local leaders condemned the violence, calling for stronger measures to protect vulnerable areas. The Kwara State government pledged full support to law enforcement, emphasizing that perpetrators will face justice.

As tensions persist, residents demand lasting solutions to prevent further bloodshed. Security analysts suggest improved intelligence gathering and community policing could help dismantle criminal networks operating in the region.

The police reiterated their commitment to restoring order, vowing to track down those responsible for the recent attacks. With investigations ongoing, officials promise transparency while prioritizing public safety above all else.

This incident underscores Nigeria’s broader security challenges, particularly in rural communities. Experts argue that addressing root causes—such as unemployment and weak governance—is essential for sustainable peace.

For now, Ilesha-Baruba remains on high alert as security forces maintain a visible presence. The coming days will test whether reinforced measures can deter future violence and reassure traumatized residents.
