Defence Chief Accuses Judges of Handcuffing Security Efforts, Calls for Tougher Terror Laws

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has called for tougher legal frameworks on terrorism, suggesting that lenient judicial rulings are hampering military operations and putting soldiers’ lives at risk.
Speaking during a television interview, General Musa emphasised the need for more stringent penalties, alleging that the current legal system sometimes favours perpetrators due to political influence. He warned that undermining justice for terrorists compromises national security.
General Musa urged comprehensive reform of Nigeria’s legal statutes to ensure that both financiers of terrorism and criminals face suitably severe consequences. He condemned “soft punishments,” urging lawmakers to close loopholes that have allowed offenders to escape accountability.
