Delta governor’s aide Shimitte dies over alleged domestic violence

Mrs. Shimite Winifred Bello, the Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Trade and Export is dead.
News Band understand that she died in the wee hours of Easter Monday following a brief illness.
Though, the exact cause of her death has not yet been officially confirmed.

The spokesman of Delta State police command, Bright Edafe confirmed the news.
He said Shimite was pronounced dead at the hospital where she was rushed for treatment.
The police also disclosed that the deceased’s husband has been taken into protective custody amid reports of threats from members of her family.
Edafe stressed that the man is not under arrest but was placed in protective care for his safety.
In his words: “He (the husband) was the one who called to report that his wife died early this morning and that he was receiving threats from her family, who feared he might be attacked. It was on this basis that we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety.”
He added that the family of the late adviser later lodged a formal complaint, raising concerns that her husband might be connected to her death.
“We are currently investigating. In situations like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or due to other causes,” he said.
Meanwhile, the police has promised to provide more updates as the investigation continues.
