Delta police arrest 21-year-old woman for killing live-in partner

(DDM) – An Oyo State graduate has been summoned by the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) over allegations of cyberbullying a prominent traditional ruler.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the dispute involves allegations of assault, destruction of property, and forceful takeover of farmland and a paint factory.

The Land Dispute and Police Summons

Mr. Oyediran Taiwo David, a Chemical Engineering graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, accused the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis Olusola Alao, of orchestrating a violent attack against him.

He alleged that the monarch deployed armed men to assault him, destroyed his farmland, and fenced off his factory, effectively seizing his property.

Following his public outcry, the police issued an invitation letter dated August 27, 2025, instructing David to appear at the FCID Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

The letter, signed by Commissioner of Police Saadat Ismaila for the Assistant Inspector General of Police, stated that the invitation was for a fact-finding exercise regarding allegations of criminal defamation, cyberbullying, cyberstalking, threatening violence, compounding felony, and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

The police urged David to come along with his lawyer to aid the investigation.

David Insists Case Already in Court

Speaking to SaharaReporters on Sunday, David maintained that the matter was already before an Oyo State High Court in Suit No: HOG/17/2025 between his company, First Class Chemical & Food Industries Limited, and Oba Francis Olusola Alao & two others.

“Maybe the petitioner didn’t tell the police that the case is in court,” David said.

He added that the monarch had previously dismissed the dispute as a civil matter and encouraged him to seek legal redress, only to later involve the police in what David described as an attempt at intimidation.

Background of the Dispute

David revealed that he purchased one acre of land in 2006 for N3 million from the former Olugbon for farming and paint production.

He claimed that the current monarch brought a bulldozer to destroy his farmland and has since fenced and repainted his factory, effectively taking over his business.

David said he wrote multiple petitions to the Divisional Police Office, Area Command, and the Oyo State Anti-Land Grabbing Agency but received no action, allegedly due to the monarch’s influence and political connections.

He claimed Oba Alao is a close associate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which makes it difficult for law enforcement to intervene.

Medical Evidence of Assault

A medical report from the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, corroborated David’s claims of physical assault.

The report, dated December 13, 2024, noted that David sustained bruises on his head, right eye, elbow, and legs after allegedly being beaten with guns by the monarch’s men.

He was treated for swelling, pain, and bruising consistent with blunt force trauma.

Monarch Denies Allegations

In response, Oba Francis Olusola Alao denied knowing David, dismissing the accusations as baseless and an act of blackmail.

He maintained that land disputes are civil matters that should be resolved in court, not through media campaigns.

“If he thinks there is an issue, the best way to approach it is to go to court,” the monarch told SaharaReporters.

He vowed to investigate further, warning that the accuser would “be in trouble” if his claims were proven false.

Legal and Public Reactions

The case has drawn public attention due to its mix of traditional authority, political influence, and alleged abuse of power.

Human rights advocates have expressed concern that police involvement in a matter already in court could be seen as harassment of a complainant.

Legal experts also argue that summoning David on cyberbullying charges while a civil case is ongoing may constitute a breach of judicial process.

For now, the case remains under police investigation as David prepares to honour the invitation in Lagos.
