Diamond Platnumz Warns African Artists: ‘Music Alone Won’t Save You’

Tanzanian music heavyweight, Naseeb Abdul Juma Issack, popularly known as Diamond Platnumz, has urged African artists to diversify their income streams beyond music, stressing that the industry is too unpredictable to depend on.
Speaking on his business ventures, the award-winning Bongo Flava star revealed he has already invested in a wide range of enterprises including a betting company, radio and television stations, real estate, and a record label.
“I don’t believe in the music business, so I invest in everything. The moment you don’t drop a hit song, even as a big artiste, you’re finished. This is why you must spread investments across before that time comes, because the time you’ll not drop hit records anymore will definitely come,” Diamond said.
The singer argued that unlike in Western markets where royalties and streaming revenues can sustain careers, African artists often face a “hit-or-miss” reality where a single year without chart-toppers can ruin their financial standing.
