DSS arraigns 9 suspects in Benue, Plateau killings

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned nine suspects linked to the recent wave of killings in Benue and Plateau states before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The suspects face various charges, including terrorism-related offenses, unlawful possession of firearms, and concealing information about planned attacks.

Haruna Adamu and Muhammad Abdullahi, both from Nasarawa State, are facing four-count charges for alleged involvement in the June 13, 2025, attacks on Abinsi and Yelewata villages in Benue State, which resulted in significant loss of life.

Terkende Ashuwa and Amo from Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, are also facing three-count charges for alleged reprisal attacks and destruction of property in Ukpam village, leading to the loss of 12 cattle.

Halima Haliru Umar, a 32-year-old woman from Katsina State, is facing four-count charges for allegedly concealing information about a suspected gunrunner and kidnapper, Alhaji Sani.

Nanbol Tali and Timnan Manjo, both from Plateau State, are charged with four counts for allegedly buying and selling two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles without a license, valued at N3 million.

Danjuma Antu from Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, is facing a five-count charge for unlawful possession of firearms.

While Silas Iduh Oloche from Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, is charged with six counts for unlawful possession of 18 firearms, including grenades.

The DSS also charged a suspected gunrunner caught with seven M16 rifles, highlighting the link between illegal arms proliferation and the security crisis in the region.

The court proceedings follow a series of brutal attacks in Plateau and Benue states, leaving hundreds dead and forcing thousands to flee.
