Edo inaugurates traditional medicines board |

Traditional medicine practitioners in Edo State have commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for setting up the Edo State Traditional Medicines Board as part of efforts to tackle sharp practices in their profession.

The chairman of the Board, High Chief Abudu Ugbesia, gave the commendation while speaking at the inauguration of the members of the board from the 18 local government areas.

Ugbesia said if countries like China and other Asian countries have been able to develop their traditional medicines to the level they are today, Nigeria could do better.

According to him, it was embarrassing that the previous administration did not inaugurate the board after the tenure of the one set up by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole ended in 2016, commending Okpebholo for correcting the situation.

He said, “Like our governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo normally say “A New Edo State is Rising”, so also, I want to announce to everyone here , and to the whole world, that a new Edo State Traditional Medicines Board is rising along.

“Given this fact, we are sanitising the traditional medicines environment in Edo State. I am using this opportunity to charge all tradomedical practitioners in the state to shun all sorts of sharp practices, as this body has zero tolerance for such practices.

He noted, “We will change the face of tradomedical practices in Edo State, and also positively change the conception of people towards traditional medicines, as roots and herbs are the way to pure health.

“If China and other countries can develop their traditional medicines to the level it is today, Nigeria can do the same and even better. I want to promise you that Edo State will take the lead.

“As I look forward to you all working towards achieving all of these, I thank you in anticipation of seeing your positive results.”

The inaugurated members promised to support the chairmen for a better traditional medicine practice in the state.
