EFCC arrests 17 suspected internet fraudsters in Uyo

Uyo, Akwa Ibom State – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has intensified its fight against cybercrime by arresting 17 suspected internet fraudsters.

Notably, the Uyo Zonal Directorate carried out the operation on April 11 and 14, 2025, following thorough intelligence gathering.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 32, include Osita Emmanuel (25), Saint Johnson (20), and Peter Lucky (26).

During the recent operation, authorities apprehended Samuel Asuquo (28), Raphael James (29), and Chimobi Moses (29) for their involvement. Furthermore, Edara Ubong (21) and Nchekwube Paul (23) were also detained as part of the ongoing investigation into the case.

Furthermore, the EFCC captured Happiness Anietie Michael (23), Christopher Edet (32), and Amadi Justice (27) during this sweep. Similarly, they arrested Patrick Ahiakwo (30), Sunday Umoh (24), and Michael Ekerette Sunday (25) for their involvement.

During the investigation, authorities took Kennedy Etim Okokon (29), Igwe Greg (30), and Goodnews Ita (23) into custody.

The EFCC’s efforts highlight the ongoing commitment to addressing crime and maintaining public safety.

During the operation, EFCC operatives executed raids at multiple locations across Uyo to gather evidence. Specifically, they targeted Use-Offot Nwaniba, Urua Ekpa, and Ring Road 3 in their mission. Moreover, operatives also searched Ikot Ekpene Road, Calabar Itu Road, and Mechanic Village to ensure thoroughness.

Authorities recovered 26 smartphones and three laptops linked to fraudulent activities. In addition, they impounded several luxury vehicles, including a white Lexus IS 250 (ABJ-739AV) and a metallic grey Toyota Corolla (KTE-687EP). Similarly, a black Lexus 350 (BWR-36LN) and a black GLE (FST-863JS) were seized.

The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to combating cybercrime through proactive measures. Consequently, the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation. Once investigations conclude, they will face prosecution.

Meanwhile, the commission urged the public to report suspicious activities promptly. By doing so, citizens can support efforts to curb financial crimes. The EFCC also emphasized its adaptability in tackling evolving fraud tactics.
