EFCC Detains Hajj Commission Chiefs Over Alleged ₦50 Billion Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained two top officials from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) amid serious allegations of misappropriating funds during the 2025 Hajj exercise.
The detained officials are Aliu Abdulrazak, the Commissioner of Policy, Personnel and Finance, and Aminu Y. Muhammed, the Director of Finance and Accounts.
According to sources, both officials responded to an EFCC invitation around 11 a.m. on Monday and remained in custody as of late Monday night. The probe specifically targets allegations of diverting over ₦50 billion, including ₦25 billion reportedly spent on Masha’ir tents, ₦1.6 billion on spouses’ allowances, and ₦7.9 billion on contingency housing in Makkah. The review raised concerns dating back to prior leadership under former chairman Ahmad Jalal Arabi.
NAHCON Responds: “We Would Not Shield Any Staff”
Reacting to the situation, NAHCON, through its Assistant Director of Information and Publication, Fatima Usara, issued a statement emphasizing accountability:
“This cooperation is a standing principle of the commission’s operations and its belief in due process and the rule of law. The commission would not shield any staff or process found wanting.”
NAHCON further appealed to the media and public to avoid speculation and allow proper investigative procedures to unfold without resorting to “media trials.”
