Upon examination, they found the money concealed inside bed spreads (duvets) and date packs.

Consequently, Bala and another suspect, Abdullahi Tahir, who was allegedly awaiting the bag, were arrested.

Chief Superintendent of Customs, CSC Abdulahi Hashim, handed the seized funds to EFCC Assistant Commander Aminu Bashir.

Currently, both suspects and the money remain in EFCC custody, and the agency has confirmed that charges will follow after investigations conclude.

In a statement, the EFCC commended Customs for their alertness and emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding Nigeria’s economy.

Additionally, the Commission is partnering with Customs and other stakeholders to educate the public on legal cash movement procedures and penalties for violations.

Meanwhile, on April 26, 2025, the EFCC, ICPC, and Customs conducted a sensitization program to inform stakeholders about cash movement laws.

The event drew participants from bureau de change operators, travel agencies, airport officials, pilgrim boards, and the Kano Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

The EFCC’s swift action demonstrates its dedication to fighting financial crimes and enforcing currency regulations.

As the investigation progresses, the Commission urges the public to stay vigilant and adhere to legal cash transaction guidelines.
