El-Rufai Hints at Preferred 2027 Candidate — But Stops Short of Naming Names

Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai has declared that he has no preferred candidate in the 2027 presidential race, emphasizing that what matters is finding someone capable of lifting Nigerians out of poverty.
Speaking to supporters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Imo State, El-Rufai criticised the performance of the current ruling party, stating that no government has done as much damage to Nigeria in just two years as President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He called for increased voter registration in southeast states, which he said are lagging behind the national average—especially ahead of the pending inclusion of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) into an opposition coalition that already includes figures such as Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Rotimi Amaechi.
