Evan Ebuka Obi, Gov Soludo to commission free elderly home, psychiatric hospital in Anambra DDM News

(DDM) – Preparations are underway in Anambra State for the official commissioning of a newly built Free Elderly Peoples’ Home and Psychiatric Hospital in Aguleri.

The facility, constructed under the auspices of the Zion Prayer Movement Outreach will be formally unveiled on Friday, September 19, 2025.

According to the organizers, the commissioning ceremony will take place at Igboko Igboezulu, Aguleri, beginning at 8 a.m. prompt.

The new home and hospital aim to provide free services to elderly citizens while also offering psychiatric care to residents in need.

The project is seen as a groundbreaking intervention that addresses two pressing social challenges: the neglect of the elderly and the growing demand for mental health support.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the commissioning will be presided over by the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

Governor Soludo will serve as Chief Host and Special Guest of Honour at the historic event, reflecting the importance the state attaches to social welfare initiatives.

The spiritual director of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, Evangelist Chukwuebuka Anozie Obi, is the chief visionary behind the project.

He emphasized that the initiative is not only a humanitarian effort but also a spiritual mandate to care for the most vulnerable in society.

Organizers noted that the facility was designed to serve as both a home and a hospital, thereby bridging gaps in existing social and healthcare systems.

Elderly citizens who often face abandonment, poor access to care, and social isolation are expected to find comfort in the new home.

Equally, patients battling psychiatric conditions will be able to access treatment in a supportive and faith-driven environment.

Observers say the dual-purpose facility underscores the growing recognition of mental health challenges in Nigeria, which have long been underfunded and stigmatized.

Mental health professionals believe the establishment of such a center within Anambra could encourage other states and faith-based organizations to replicate similar models.

Community leaders in Aguleri have expressed excitement, describing the facility as a blessing not only to Anambra but to the entire South-East.

The timing of the commissioning also coincides with wider calls for greater government and community investment in public health and social care.

Governor Soludo, who has prioritized human capital development and inclusive governance, is expected to use the platform to reiterate his administration’s social welfare agenda.

Zion Prayer Movement Outreach has called on the general public to attend the commissioning and “be part of history in the making.”

The group assured that the event would be both spiritually uplifting and socially impactful, setting a new benchmark for community service in Nigeria.

Faith-based organizations, government representatives, and social welfare advocates are expected to converge at the commissioning in large numbers.
