FCT command deploys 4,500 personnel for 65th Independence Day celebrations

Massive deployment for security
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, has deployed 4,500 personnel across Abuja and environs.
The deployment aims to ensure a smooth and secure celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports.
Monica Ojobi, FCT Command spokesperson, said the deployment followed directives from the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu.
Odumosu emphasised that the action seeks to guarantee the security of lives, property, and Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI).
Specialised units on alert
Officers and men from the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adakasu, and CBRNE units are part of the deployment.
These units have been strategically positioned to ensure maximum surveillance and operational efficiency throughout the FCT.
“Black spots such as uncompleted buildings, which often harbour criminals, are also being monitored to prevent security breaches,” Odumosu said.
Area commanders instructed
Odumosu directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to maintain a visible presence in their area councils.
He stressed that every personnel must be on high alert to avoid security lapses.
“All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any form of breaches,” Odumosu said.
He added, “Ensure you deploy your personnel adequately to secure every community and public space.”
Conduct and coordination
The commandant emphasised the need for officers to maintain exemplary conduct during operations.
He urged personnel to collaborate effectively with other security agencies to ensure operational efficiency.
Strict adherence to the rules of engagement was stressed, warning against harassment, intimidation, or accidental firearm discharge.
Public vigilance encouraged
Residents of the FCT were urged to be vigilant and report suspicious movements, individuals, or groups to nearby security agencies.
Odumosu extended well wishes to all residents for a peaceful and joyous 65th Independence Day celebration.
He encouraged Nigerians to continue to have faith in the nation and pray for its well-being.
Commemorating 65 years of independence
Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960, marking 65 years this year.
The celebrations are themed, “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
Activities have begun with prayers at mosques and churches across the FCT, highlighting Nigeria’s religious diversity.
Collaboration with other security agencies
The NSCDC is working alongside the Nigerian Police and other paramilitary agencies to ensure seamless celebrations.
The deployment of 4,500 NSCDC personnel is part of a broader security framework to prevent risks and maintain public safety.
Odumosu stressed that community engagement is vital in identifying threats and maintaining law and order.
“A successful Independence Day requires operational readiness and active public participation in safeguarding communities,” he said.
Commitment to public safety
The FCT Command’s strategy reflects the NSCDC’s mandate to protect lives and property while boosting public confidence in security.
By combining specialised units, visible patrols, and strict adherence to protocols, the command aims to prevent crime and maintain order.
Residents can enjoy the Independence Day festivities without fear, thanks to proactive security measures and strict operational standards.
Odumosu reiterated that vigilance, cooperation, and discipline are essential for a peaceful and successful celebration of national independence.
