Fired FBI Officials Sue Boss, Say Trump Carrying Out Campaign Of Retribution

Three former senior Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) officials—Brian Driscoll, Steve Jensen, and Spencer Evans—have filed a federal lawsuit against FBI Director, Kash Patel.
The officials sued to get their jobs back, calling their terminations part of a “campaign of retribution” carried out by a director who caved to political pressure from the President Donald Trump administration.
They alleged that they were unlawfully fired in a politically motivated purge orchestrated to appease President Trump.
The officials claim they were dismissed as part of a “campaign of retribution” targeting agents who had worked on investigations involving Trump, including the January 6 Capitol riot and the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case.
Patel allegedly told Driscoll that he had to fire agents identified by the White House and DOJ, stating that “the FBI tried to put the president in jail, and he hasn’t forgotten it”.
President Donald Trump of the United States
The lawsuit asserts that the firings violated the plaintiffs’ First Amendment rights (free speech and association) and Fifth Amendment rights (due process).
The plaintiffs argue that Patel’s public statements falsely implied they had “weaponized” the FBI, damaging their reputations and future employment prospects.
Key Allegations in the Lawsuit
The following key allegations were made in the lawsuit:
- Politically Motivated Firings: The officials claim Patel fired them because they worked on cases involving President Donald Trump.
- Impact on National Security: The firings allegedly undermined national security by removing veteran leaders with expertise in counterterrorism and violent crime prevention.
What the Plaintiffs Seek
According to the suit, the Plaintiffs are seeking the following:
- Reinstatement to their former positions
- Back pay and benefits
- A formal declaration that the firings were illegal
- A forum to clear their names.
The lawsuit also names Attorney General Pam Bondi, the FBI, the Department of Justice, and the Executive Office of the President as defendants.
The FBI has declined to comment on the case.
