First Group of Nigerians Deported from U.S. Under Trump Policy

The first group of Nigerians marked for deportation from the United States under President Donald Trump’s administration have left America, Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama told reporters.
The 14 deportees, including Nigerians and one Gambian, arrived in Ghana late Wednesday and were subsequently facilitated to return to their respective home countries. The Nigerians reportedly crossed back into Nigeria by bus, while the Gambian is still being assisted to return.
President Mahama said his government agreed to accept “third-party nationals” deported from the U.S., provided they are West Africans, citing visa-free entry arrangements for West Africans into Ghana.
Nigeria, which had earlier opposed accepting third-country migrants deported from the U.S., did not formally object to this recent movement.
