Fubara Fails to Resume as Emergency Rule Ends; Government House Remains Empty

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara failed to return to his office on Thursday despite the lifting of emergency rule, leaving the Government House deserted and his supporters disappointed.

The state of emergency, imposed in March, was officially lifted by President Bola Tinubu late Wednesday. Governor Fubara, his deputy, and state legislators were expected to resume their democratic duties after six months of suspension.

A crowd of hundreds had gathered early at the Government House in Port Harcourt, including loyalists and well-wishers, to welcome the governor’s return. By late afternoon, many had left in disappointment. The Government House itself was reportedly locked and largely empty, with only security personnel present. (Daily Post, Vanguard)

No official statement has yet been issued explaining Governor Fubara’s delay or absence. His whereabouts remain unknown as at Thursday evening.
