Fubara will return as Rivers gov – Tompolo

Former Niger Delta warlord, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka, Tompolo, has declared support for the return of the suspended Rivers State governor, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara, to his position.

Tompolo said this during his birthday celebration held over the weekend in Gbaramatu Kingdom, located in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Fubara, along with his deputy and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, was suspended following a state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu on March 18, 2025.

In the wake of the declaration, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, was appointed as the sole administrator to manage the state’s affairs for an initial period of six months.

Meanwhile, while addressing guests at the celebration, Tompolo highlighted the strength and solidarity of the Ijaw Nation.

“We have only one state, and our focus remains on Bayelsa. If you think power lies solely in being president or governor, and you attempt to undermine Bayelsa, you will face consequences,” he said.

“One of us is stronger than twenty. Our brother, the governor of Bayelsa State, no matter our political disagreements—will always have our support.

“Even in Rivers State, our son Fubara will return to his rightful place. Dialogue and understanding will prevail.”

He also commented on the political process that brought Fubara to power, noting that the decision lacked input from key Ijaw figures.

“Wike is my friend, but when he chose Fubara, no Ijaw man was involved or consulted. Yet, here we are standing for truth,” he stated.
