Gov Soludo Declares: I Have No Challenger in November Poll

Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has made a bold declaration: he sees no credible rival in the upcoming 8 November 2025 governorship election.

Speaking at an endorsement rally organized by stakeholders from the Central Senatorial Zone in Awka, Governor Soludo emphasized that the few individuals opposing him are not serious contenders but are in the race to solicit funds, not to govern.

Soludo underscored the context of Anambra’s zoning formula, noting that his tenure marks the completion of the South Zone’s eight‑year term. He reaffirmed that according to established zoning practice, the next governorship seat should revert to the Central Zone. Any challenger from the South, he argued, would disrupt this rotation and delay the Central Zone’s turn.

During his remarks, Soludo insisted that APGA remains the dominant force in Anambra politics:

“Anambra is APGA and APGA is Anambra.” He claimed opposition efforts are more about financial gain than genuine ambition to win .

This streamed endorsement follows a similar rally held earlier in Otuocha for the Northern Senatorial Zone. In both events, local party stakeholders and traditional leaders declared the Soludo ticket a consensus choice, reinforcing his dominance within the state APGA structure.

Political Landscape: Opposition in Fund‑Raising Mode

Analysts note that APGA’s internal cohesion is unprecedented at this stage: no disputes, court interventions, or factional strife have emerged, positioning the party uniquely ahead of the race . Meanwhile, some opposition parties appear to be leveraging aspirants’ campaign fundraising as a revenue scheme, collecting funds from donors without legitimate hopes of victory—a phenomenon observers describe as the “economy of political campaigns” .

What’s Next?

APGA’s formal primaries are slated to solidify Soludo’s candidacy. Opposition hopefuls in the Labour Party and APC are expected to conduct their own primaries, though their prospects remain widely viewed as nominal, with many contesting more for exposure than for electability .
