Gov Uba Sani Names Tinubu, Fawehinmi as Mentors, Skips Mention of El-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has publicly identified President Bola Tinubu and the late human rights lawyer Chief Gani Fawehinmi as his political mentors—but notably omitted mention of his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Speaking during a TVC interview, Governor Sani stated that his focus remains on good governance in Kaduna rather than political associations. “I still regard [Tinubu] as my leader,” he said, adding that Fawehinmi holds a special place for him due to his past activism. Sani declined to comment further when questioned about reports that he was mentored by El-Rufai.

Former governor Nasir El-Rufai had previously described Sani as one of his mentees and took pride in his mentees’ achievements.

Sani’s political journey includes serving as a special adviser to El-Rufai before being elected senator and later succeeding El-Rufai as governor in 2023.
