Governor Soludo Mourns Killed Arise TV Anchor, Maduagwu

The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has expressed profound sadness and a deep sense of loss over the heartbreaking news of the tragic death of Miss Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a distinguished daughter of Anambra State, who was brutally killed during an armed robbery attack at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025.

In the statement entitled “Governor Soludo Mourns the Tragic Loss of Arise TV Anchor Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, Governor Soludo eulogised Miss Maduagwu, fondly called Sommie.
He described her as a “shining star whose light has been prematurely extinguished”.
He lamented: “At just 29 years old, she had already distinguished herself as a lawyer-turned News Anchor, Reporter, and Producer with ARISE News Channel, where her vibrant voice and professional excellence connected with audiences across Nigeria and beyond.
“A lawyer by training and a journalist by passion, Sommie exemplified the industrious and excellence-driven spirit for which Anambra indigenes are renowned.”
The governor also lamented that the circumstances of her death.
He noted that she was cut down in the prime of her youth and career by criminal elements.
Soludo described her death as a personal tragedy to her family and a loss to Anambra State, the journalism profession, and the entire nation.
“That such a promising young woman, who worked diligently to inform and educate the public, should meet such a violent and senseless end is deeply disturbing and unacceptable,” he cried.
Soludo, therefore, on behalf of the Government, and the entire people of Anambra State, extended his condolences to Sommie’s parents and siblings.
He also consoled the extended family members, friends, colleagues at ARISE News Channel, and all who knew and loved her.
He also called on the Nigeria Police to conduct a thorough, swift, and transparent investigation into this heinous crime and ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice expeditiously.
“May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace, and may God grant her family and loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss,” he added
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) had, on Monday, reported that Maduagwu was killed during an armed robbery at her residence in Abuja.
Her death was confirmed in a statement issued by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi on behalf of the ARISE News management.
