Gumen kills 11 in renewed attacks in Sokoto

At least 11 people have been killed in coordinated attacks by armed bandits on three communities in Sokoto State.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the incident in a post on his official X handle, formerly Twitter on Saturday, May 3.

Makama reported that the attacks occurred on Thursday, May 1, around 7:30 p.m.

The bandits targeted villages in Gwadabawa and Sabon Birni Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.

Makama said the attackers first invaded Satiru Village, killing five residents during the raid.

The attackers moved to Kunkurus Village, where they killed one person, before proceeding to Shadawa community.

At Shadawa in Sabon Birni LGA, the bandits shot and killed another five people, raising the death toll to eleven.

Makama noted that the attackers operated in large numbers and fled immediately after the killings.

Following the attacks, security forces launched a swift response to the affected areas.

Troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA coordinated with the Nigeria Police, NSCDC, and Sokoto Community Guards.

However, the terrorists escaped before the security forces arrived at the crime scenes.

Makama confirmed that troops are now trailing the fleeing assailants in an intensified manhunt.

Security forces have vowed to apprehend those responsible for the deadly attacks.

Local residents expressed fear and grief, calling for increased security presence in the region.

Community leaders urged the government to deploy more resources to combat rising insecurity in Sokoto.

Eyewitnesses described the attacks as sudden and brutal, leaving families devastated.

Makama emphasized the need for intelligence-sharing to prevent future attacks in vulnerable areas.

The Sokoto State Government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the attacks.

Security experts warned that rising banditry threatens the safety and stability of northern communities.

They also assured residents that efforts are underway to restore peace and protect lives.

Authorities called on the public to provide any useful information to assist the ongoing manhunt.

Residents expressed hope that security reinforcements would prevent further bloodshed in the state.
