Gunmen Attack in Anambra: Policeman, Vigilante Injured, Two Security Vehicles Burnt

In a recent security breach in Anambra, gunmen have injured a policeman and a member of the local vigilante group during a violent confrontation. The attackers also set fire to two security operational vehicles.

The incident occurred late Thursday evening when the Anambra State Joint Security Team intercepted the armed assailants on the Umuchu-Amesi-Uga Road, located in the Aguata Local Government Area.

According to the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the security team managed to recover a branded blue Hilux vehicle (Plate Number: GDD 440 TJ), which is believed to have been stolen from an unsuspecting civilian by the assailants. During a search of the vehicle, food coolers were found inside.

The gunmen had been pursued after they attempted to attack a police checkpoint at Ajali in the Orumba North Local Government Area.

During the ensuing gun battle, one police officer and one member of the Anti- Vigilante Group (AVG) sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving medical treatment. Unfortunately, the two AVG operational vehicles were completely destroyed by fire.

The joint security operations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided, according to SP Ikenga.
