Hilda Baci Completes Attempted Record for Largest Pot of Jollof Rice; Guinness to Review Evidence

Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda “Baci” Bassey has completed a high-profile attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice during an open cooking event at Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. She used over 5 tonnes of rice, tomato concentrate, onions, and oil over an eight-hour cook, aiming to feed 20,000 people and break the Guinness World Record.
The mega-pot measured six metres in diameter and contained 4,000 kilogrammes of basmati rice, 500 cartons of tomato paste, 750 kilogrammes of oil, and 600 kilogrammes of onions. Organizers said they initially planned to use 250 bags of rice, but reduced to 200 to stay within scale limitations.
Tension flared at the weigh-in when the cauldron’s cover slipped and its support legs bent, causing a pause in proceedings. Ultimately, the cooked jollof was packed into takeaway packs and distributed to the crowd.
Guinness World Records has acknowledged her attempt and will review submitted photos, videos, and other evidence before confirming whether the record has been officially broken.
