How Wike looted $300m earmarked for Ogoniland development — Report

The face-off between the publisher of Sahara Repoters, Mr. Omoyele Sowore and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nysom Wike, has further nosedived as the former has revealed details of how Wike allegedly looted over $300 million earmarked for Ogoniland remediation and development.

Sowore, who has been recently described as a pain on Wike’s neck, made the disturbing revelation in a post on his official Facebook on Friday.

He said the $300 million allegedly looted by the former governor of Rivers State —Nyesom Wike, was funneled into constructing a chain of supermarkets in Port Harcourt, known as “HyperCity Supermarkets.”

According to Omoyele Sowore, the allegations against Wike was boldly mentioned in a document presented by an Ogoni delegation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa on Wednesday.

He said: The revelation is that thieving Nyesom Ezenwo Wike – CON, GSSRS diverted $300 million earmarked for Ogoniland’s remediation and development.

“Reports indicate that Nyesom Ezenwo Wike – CON, GSSRS funneled the funds into constructing a chain of supermarkets in Port Harcourt, known as “HyperCity Supermarkets.”

“This revelation, which is being hushed, had an honorable mention in a document presented by an Ogoni delegation to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa the day before yesterday.”

Meanwhile, the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has accused some individuals within Ogoni and other parts of Rivers State of looting $300 million meant for compensation and infrastructural development in Ogoniland.

The funds were part of an out-of-court settlement with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) aimed at resolving the prolonged oil crisis in the region.

MOSOP President, Fegalo Nsuke, expressed frustration over the alleged corruption, stating that the money could have addressed critical challenges such as, providing clean water for thousands of Ogoni residents, improving the region’s power supply, enhancing the infrastructure to boost economic activities and improving educational facilities and opportunities.

Nsuke stressed that the Ogoni people want this problem resolved and are calling for an immediate investigation into the missing funds.

“The starting point should be an investigation into what happened to the $300 million infrastructural development fund paid by the NNPC. We want a probe now and want the money back to help us address some critical under-development challenges,” he said.

The MOSOP leader condemned the government’s silence on the matter, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to take action.

“Being silent would mean a lack of commitment to resolve the Ogoni problem,” Nsuke added.

In a related development, a lawmaker representing Akuku-Toru and Asari-Toru Federal Constituency, Boma Goodhead, accused Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, of diverting the $300 million funds released for the development of Ogoni.

Goodhead called for Wike’s arrest and prosecution.
