IGP promises justice following deadly attack in Plateau

Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State – April 16, 2025 – In response to the tragic killings in the Zikke community, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has vowed justice.
This deadly attack on Monday morning claimed fifty-one lives and devastated many homes, displacing numerous residents.
Notably, this incident follows a similar attack in Bokkos Local Government Area just two weeks earlier, which also resulted in multiple fatalities.

During his third official visit to Plateau State on Tuesday, Egbetokun condemned the violence, highlighting its severe impact on local farming communities.
He stated, “We condemn these acts of violence in the strongest possible terms. We recognize the incident’s severity and its negative impact on local farming communities.”
Egbetokun reassured the public, expressing confidence that justice would prevail.
He remarked, “I don’t want to say much, but this criminal element will soon be surprised.
Their days are numbered.” His comments reflect a strong commitment to addressing ongoing security challenges in the region.
Moreover, the Inspector General urged the community to avoid ethnic profiling of criminals.
“We must stop profiling based on ethnicity. Criminals are just criminals; they don’t have tribes. Let us work together to ensure justice,” he urged.
The recent violence in Plateau State has raised significant concerns among residents about their safety.
Egbetokun’s visit and statements aim to reassure the public of the government’s dedication to restoring peace and security.
As investigations progress and security measures increase, the community remains anxious yet hopeful for swift resolution.
The Inspector General’s firm stance against ethnic profiling and his promise of accountability may foster cooperation among Plateau State’s diverse communities.
