IGP summons MOPOL Provost over viral cash handout video

Kaduna, Nigeria – April 17, 2025 – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has summoned Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Aliyu Adejembi, Provost of the 1 Police Mobile Force (MOPOL) in Kaduna, alongside his team, for urgent questioning. This action follows the circulation of a viral video that has ignited public outrage over alleged police misconduct.
The controversial footage, widely shared on social media, shows MOPOL officers receiving cash handouts from Chinese nationals during a Lagos assignment. Consequently, Nigerians have demanded accountability, amplifying calls for systemic reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
Through an official wireless signal, the IGP ordered the officers to appear for interrogation on April 16, 2025, at 9:00 AM. Specifically, the session aims to uncover the circumstances behind the incident and determine whether the officers engaged in bribery.

Moreover, the scandal has revived debates about corruption in law enforcement. Advocacy groups and citizens insist on strict disciplinary measures, emphasizing the need to eradicate bribery, extortion, and abuse of power among officers.
So far, the Nigeria Police Force has remained silent on possible sanctions or investigation outcomes. This silence has deepened public frustration, raising doubts about leadership’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
The viral video marks a pivotal moment for the police force, intensifying scrutiny over its operations. To regain public trust, authorities must demonstrate a genuine willingness to enforce reforms and uphold ethical standards.
As investigations proceed, Nigerians await official updates on disciplinary actions and potential policy changes. Ultimately, this case will test the police force’s dedication to professionalism and integrity in serving the public.
