Ikwerre Youths Urge Rotimi Amaechi to Contest for Ohanaeze Ndigbo President-General

The Ikwerre Youths Progressive Initiative (IYPI), a socio-cultural organization, has called on former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, to run for the position of President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural body.

In a statement issued by the group, the IYPI described Amaechi as a leader with the capacity to foster unity and development among the Igbo people and the broader South-East region. The group highlighted his political experience and achievements, noting his role in national politics and governance as a former governor and federal minister.

The IYPI emphasized the importance of strong leadership in addressing the socio-political challenges facing the Igbo nation, asserting that Amaechi’s candidacy would bolster the cohesion and global representation of the Igbo people.

“We believe that Rotimi Amaechi possesses the vision, competence, and integrity to lead Ohanaeze Ndigbo in this crucial period,” the statement read. “His vast experience in leadership positions has prepared him to effectively champion the cause of Ndigbo on national and international platforms.”

The call by the IYPI comes as preparations for the next leadership election of Ohanaeze Ndigbo gain momentum, with various groups and stakeholders expressing interest in the future direction of the organization.

Neither Amaechi nor his spokesperson has responded to the call at the time of this report. However, his potential involvement in the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo could significantly influence the socio-political dynamics of the Igbo people.

The race for the President-General position is expected to attract wide interest, given the organization’s pivotal role in advocating for the rights and interests of the Igbo ethnic group both within Nigeria and the diaspora.
