“I’m Not an Ogboni Man — I’m Just That Good” – Kanayo O. Kanayo Breaks Silence on Public Misconceptions

Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo, famously dubbed “Nna Anyi Sacrifice”, has spoken candidly about the public’s perception of him, saying his iconic movie roles have sparked bizarre reactions from everyday Nigerians — from people hiding their goats to avoiding handshakes, out of fear that he’s involved in the occult.

In a recent heartfelt reflection, the acclaimed actor addressed the widespread assumptions linking him with ritualistic practices due to his numerous roles in movies that depict dark, supernatural themes.

“People hide their goats every time I’m walking on the street. No one wants to shake my hands because they think I’m in Ogboni,” he shared. “But I’m not an Ogboni man — I’m just that good. People often forget something very important: I’m an actor.”

Kanayo explained that his commitment to bringing characters to life with authenticity is the very reason people find his portrayals so convincing. But he urged fans and critics alike to remember the difference between film and reality.

“When I take on a role, I don’t just act it — I become it. That’s why it feels real. That’s why you believe it,” he said. “But please, let’s not forget: film is not reality. I’m a simple, calm, and reserved man.”

Kanayo, whose real name is Anayo Modestus Onyekwere, emphasized that his legacy in Nollywood is built on hard work, passion, and talent — not mysticism.

“People know me for that iconic sign, that look, that presence. I didn’t just act in Nollywood — I became part of its DNA,” he proudly declared.

Despite the myths surrounding him, Kanayo O. Kanayo has remained a respected pillar in the Nigerian movie industry. His unmatched mastery of ritual-themed roles earned him the nickname “Nna Anyi Sacrifice,” a title both celebrated and misunderstood.

In his final words, the veteran actor urged fans to celebrate legends while they’re still here, noting that his journey in entertainment is far from over.

“I’m proud of the legacy I’ve built — and I’m not done yet.”

Kanayo O. Kanayo is not just a name — it’s an institution in Nollywood. With decades of experience and a distinct style that has influenced generations, he remains one of the most iconic faces in African cinema.
