'It Was Wike, He Is Selfish, Common Go and Rest'- Video Of 2 Female Lawmakers Exchanging Words Surface

In a recent broadcast by Africa Independent Television, tensions escalated as two female lawmakers engaged in a heated exchange over President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State and the subsequent suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The confrontation began when one lawmaker attributed the crisis to former Governor Nyesom Wike, accusing him of prioritizing personal interests over the state’s welfare. She exclaimed, “It was Wike and his selfish interest. Common go and rest, it was Wike.”

The political turmoil in Rivers State has been intensifying over recent months primarily due to a rift between Governor Fubara and factions loyal to his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

This discord culminated in attempts by state lawmakers to impeach Fubara over allegations related to illegal budget presentations and issues concerning the legislative chamber’s composition.

Compounding the political unrest, the state has witnessed a surge in pipeline vandalism.

Notably, a recent explosion resulted in a fire on the Trans Niger Pipeline, a critical infrastructure for Nigeria’s oil exports.

President Tinubu criticized Governor Fubara for not taking action to address these security breaches, stating that no responsible president would “stand by and allow the grave situation to continue without taking remedial steps prescribed by the constitution.”

In response to these challenges, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025.

This action led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy, and all state lawmakers for an initial period of six months.

Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas has been appointed as the military administrator to oversee the state’s affairs during this period.

The declaration has elicited mixed reactions nationwide. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar condemned the move, labeling it as “political manipulation and outright bad faith.”

He argued that President Tinubu has been a partisan actor in the state’s turmoil and that the declaration punishes the people of Rivers State to serve political gamesmanship.

As Rivers State navigates this period of emergency rule, the federal government’s intervention aims to stabilize the region, address security concerns, and restore effective governance.

The coming months will be crucial in determining the state’s trajectory and the broader implications for Nigeria’s democratic processes.
