David Ornstein has revealed the likelihood of Manchester United parting ways with Alejandro Garnacho this summer, telling fans it’s ‘highly possible’ his exit comes to fruition (via The Athletic Q&A).

In fairness, it might not come as too much of a surprise to the Old Trafford faithful, given he was reportedly open to a move to Napoli when they submitted their £40 million bid back in January.

The offer was swiftly rebuffed by United, so they’ll now be hoping they can still recuperate such a high fee after the 20-year-old has overseen a quieter second half to the campaign.

When the winter window closed and Garnacho remained a Red, it was claimed Chelsea were confident they’d laid the groundwork for a summer deal, having held talks with his agents throughout the month.

They ultimately opted against testing United’s resolve with a mid-season offer, so it’d be intriguing to see if INEOS raised their price tag for a direct Premier League rival.

United can’t rule out Garnacho sale

Garnacho, who signed from Atletico Madrid’s academy for £420,000 in 2020, has accumulated an impressive 137 senior appearances over the last four seasons; he made his debut under Ralf Rangnick towards the end of 2021/2022 but didn’t feature prominently until the subsequent term when Erik ten Hag was at the helm. By 2023/2024, he was a regular starter, and now boasts 25 goals and 21 assists in all competitions.

What’s likely to drive up the forward’s value, at least from United’s perspective, is that he’s also an established Argentine international with eight caps to his name, being awarded his debut in June 2023 – Garnacho was only 18 at the time – by World Cup-winning coach Lionel Scaloni.

While his wasteful antics or blank performances have seen him come under fire by supporters in recent weeks, StatmanDave believes the Carrington graduate is actually ‘so underrated’. One thing’s for sure: if he does leave, United need to ensure they don’t accept any lowball offers to then end up looking foolish later down the line.
