JUST IN: Gunmen Kill APC Leader in Benue

Tragedy struck Otukpo, Benue State, on Monday, September 22, 2025, as unknown gunmen shot dead a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Hon. Ejeh Udeh, in front of his wife and children.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers arrived at his residence around midnight on a motorcycle.

They reportedly lay in wait until Udeh returned home.

“The moment he stepped into his compound, the attackers surrounded him and opened fire at close range,” one source revealed.

The chilling attack left Udeh fatally wounded.

Neighbours said they heard sporadic gunfire that shattered the quiet night and caused panic across the community.

By the time residents rushed out, Udeh was found lying in a pool of blood.

He was later confirmed dead, and his body was taken to the Otukpo General Hospital morgue.

The assailants, who fled immediately after the shooting, have yet to be identified.

As of press time, efforts to reach the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Anene Sewusese, neither answered calls nor replied to messages.

The shocking incident has thrown Udeh’s family and the wider Otukpo community into deep mourning.

Locals fear the killing could further inflame political tensions in Benue, where violent attacks against politicians have been on the rise.

Residents have called on security agencies to swiftly investigate the matter, track down the killers, and bring them to justice.

Many also urged government authorities to step up protection for political leaders and communities across the state.

The killing of Udeh underscores Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, with politicians, security operatives, and civilians increasingly falling victim to targeted attacks.

For now, Otukpo remains gripped by grief, uncertainty, and fear as the community mourns one of its own.
