JUST IN: IGP appoints CSP Benjamin Hundeyin as new Force PRO

(DDM) – The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has officially appointed Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the announcement was made on Thursday in a statement issued by the outgoing Police PRO, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Muyiwa Adejobi.

The development marks another significant reshuffling within the communication arm of the Nigeria Police Force.

CSP Hundeyin brings with him a strong academic background and diverse professional experience.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language from Lagos State University.

He also earned a Master of Science degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.

In addition, he obtained a Certificate in Civil-Military Coordination from the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre, Jaji, Kaduna State.

CSP Hundeyin is an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

He is also a Member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA).

In addition, he is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).

The new Force PRO is widely regarded as a seasoned communicator with a track record of effective engagement.

He previously served as the Police Public Relations Officer at Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.

He was also part of the Nigerian contingent to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan (UNAMID) in 2020.

In Abuja, he served as the Administration Officer at the Force Public Relations Department, Force Headquarters.

Until his present appointment, he was the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command.

Analysts note that his Lagos posting significantly raised his public profile due to the city’s large population and high volume of police-public interactions.

The Inspector-General of Police charged CSP Hundeyin to leverage his communication skills and security expertise to strengthen the image of the Force.

Egbetokun stressed the need for continuous positive engagement between the Police and the Nigerian public.

The Nigeria Police has increasingly relied on its communication department to manage public perception in recent years.

This became especially important during times of public protest, rising insecurity, and high-profile investigations.

Observers believe Hundeyin’s appointment reflects the IGP’s commitment to professionalizing police communications.

The statement announcing the appointment also included Hundeyin’s official contact details, encouraging the public to engage with his office.

DCP Muyiwa Adejobi, who handed over the role, received commendation for his tenure.

Adejobi was known for his accessibility on social media and his efforts to explain police actions to Nigerians.

The transition is expected to ensure continuity in the Force’s engagement strategy.

By appointing a seasoned officer with both local and international exposure, the Police leadership signaled its intent to strengthen transparency.

For many Nigerians, the effectiveness of the Police PRO determines how well the Force connects with the public.

With Hundeyin’s appointment, expectations are high for improved communication and accountability in the Force’s operations.
