JUST IN: Six Injured as Abuja–Kaduna Train Derails, NSIB Launches Investigation

Six passengers were injured today when a Kaduna-bound train derailed on the Abuja–Kaduna route.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:09 am near KM 49, between Kubwa and Asham stations, according to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed the derailment and assured that emergency responders, medical personnel, and hospital teams were swiftly deployed on-site to tend to passengers and secure the area. Transit operations were disrupted as efforts were under way to safely return all passengers to Abuja.
The statement read in parts, “Current information available indicates that six persons sustained injuries, and no recorded fatalities. A go-team has been deployed to the site to gather evidence, engage relevant stakeholders, and commence an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
“The Bureau sympathises with those injured and extends its support to all passengers affected. The investigation will focus on identifying the direct and underlying factors that led to the derailment, with the aim of issuing safety recommendations to prevent a recurrence,” the statement read.
Director General of NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh while commenting on the incident, also said through the statement that,
“We deeply sympathise with all who sustained injuries. The Bureau has deployed investigators to the site to ensure the root cause of this derailment is uncovered.
“Our commitment is to ensure safer rail transport for Nigerians through a transparent and independent investigation.”
During a media briefing, NSIB Director-General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., expressed sympathy for those affected and stated the Bureau has dispatched a go-team to investigate the cause of the accident. Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, NSIB’s Public Affairs Director, added that the team would gather evidence, coordinate with stakeholders, and determine both immediate and underlying factors to prevent future occurrences.
