Kano court convicts Make-up artist for Naira abuse

Kano, Nigeria – April 7, 2025- In a landmark ruling, Justice S.M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court sentenced Abdullahi Musa Huseini, known as “Amuscap,” to six months in prison.

This decision underscores the serious legal ramifications of currency abuse and aims to deter similar offenses in Nigeria.

Huseini, a make-up artist, mutilated the Naira during a festive gathering, marking a pivotal moment in currency law enforcement.

Earlier today, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) shared details about the case via its official Twitter account.

Furthermore, the EFCC explained that Huseini faced one count of defacing the Naira, violating Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.

This legal framework seeks to preserve the integrity of Nigeria’s currency and ensure appropriate consequences for such actions.

The charges against Huseini stem from an event on December 6, 2024, at the Ali Jita Event Centre in Kano.

Reports indicate he sprayed N100,000 in N1,000 notes while dancing at his wedding celebration, viewed as blatant currency mutilation.

This behavior disrespects the Naira and undermines ongoing efforts to educate the public on preserving currency integrity.

Upon arraignment, Huseini admitted guilt, expediting the court proceedings significantly.

Prosecution counsel Zarami Mohammed presented strong evidence, illustrating the allegations convincingly and leading Justice Shuaibu to find Huseini guilty.

Consequently, the judge imposed a six-month prison sentence, signaling a strong stance against currency abuse in Nigeria.

Moreover, the EFCC noted that credible intelligence prompted Huseini’s arrest for his involvement in this act of defacement.

Investigations confirmed that he intentionally damaged the currency during a public celebration.

Despite earlier warnings, he ignored the consequences.

This conviction highlights the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to enforce laws protecting the financial system and uphold Central Bank regulations.

In light of this ruling, the EFCC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the Nigerian currency from similar acts.

Moreover, these violations are illegal and detrimental to the economy.

As Nigeria combats financial crimes, this case serves as a reminder of the serious repercussions associated with currency abuse.

Abdullahi Musa Huseini’s sentencing is expected to deter others who might consider similar actions in the future.

Thus, the decisive action taken by authorities reflects a broader commitment to ensuring accountability and dignity for the national currency.
