The political scene in Lagos has taken another turn as Moshood Salvador, the 2023 Labour Party Senatorial candidate for Lagos West, officially announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Salvador, who previously held prominent positions as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos and as a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the announcement on Saturday during an event in Surulere.
He was joined by members of his political group, the Conscience Forum.
The event also marked the 25th anniversary of the Conscience Forum, during which Salvador emphasized the need for reflection and forward planning.
Explaining his decision, Salvador declared that the Labour Party lacked a viable future and that the ADC, as part of a coalition of political parties, offered more promising opportunities for progress.
“ADC is the symbol of the new coalition,” he stated, highlighting that the Conscience Forum, which counts over 400,000 members across Lagos State, would transition to the ADC with its full structure.
This move, he noted, was unanimously approved by the forum’s state executives.
Welcoming Salvador, ADC National Secretary and former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, encouraged Nigerians to unite against the ruling APC, which he said had repeatedly failed the country.
Aregbesola praised the ADC as a party committed to prioritizing people’s welfare and establishing a government that truly serves the people.
ADC Lagos Organising Secretary, Mohammed Ogidi, expressed optimism about the party’s growing strength, stating that Salvador’s defection and the Conscience Forum’s backing would brighten the ADC’s future.
He also reiterated the party’s inclusive philosophy, welcoming Nigerians from all ethnic and religious backgrounds.
Adding to the support, John Uche, a former Ohanaeze Ndigbo chair in Lagos, pledged the Igbo community’s commitment to the ADC’s vision for progress and equity.
