Lagos Commissioner champions civic innovation in public service

Lagos State Commissioner for Establishments, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, has urged civil servants to embrace civic innovation during a strategic training program in Alausa. The initiative, themed “Leveraging Talent Development for the Next Public Service,” aims to transform traditional bureaucrats into proactive problem-solvers.
Speaking passionately, Ayantayo stressed that rapid societal changes demand adaptable governance structures. “Innovation must define our public service, not rigid adherence to old methods,” he declared. The commissioner described civil servants as governance cornerstones requiring constant skill upgrades.
Furthermore, he emphasized that talent recruitment alone cannot drive progress without sustained training. “We must nurture skills aligning with Lagos’ development goals,” Ayantayo insisted. The program directly supports Governor Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda for transformative governance.
Over 100 participants from various ministries attended the capacity-building workshop. Ayantayo challenged them: “You’re not just civil servants but potential innovators shaping governance.” His address highlighted the critical need for continuous learning in public service.
