Manchester United are among a host of clubs to have added RB Leipzig starlet Xavi Simons to their shortlist.

While a formal offer is yet to be sent the German club’s way, Simons is garnering widespread interest across Europe. The Red Devils and Liverpool are likely to offer him a route to the Premier League if he opts for a summer switch.

They will, however, have to fork out a hefty fee to prise him from Leipzig, with Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg revealing the ‘exceptional’ Netherlands international is valued in the region of €80 million (£68m).

Despite missing two months of the season with an ankle injury, Simons has notched an impressive 10 goals and six assists in 29 appearances across all competitions. His career-best campaign came with PSV Eindhoven in 2022/2023, where he found the back of the net 22 times and assisted a further 11 goals in 48 matches.

Why United might opt against Simons move

Yet, recent developments regarding United’s pursuit of Matheus Cunha could deter any potential move for Simons. The Wolverhampton Wanderers talisman has enjoyed a scintillating term in the top flight, with Ruben Amorim presumably hoping he can continue such superb form in a red shirt throughout 2025/2026.

Cunha is available for £62.5m due to a release clause that was included in his contract when he signed a four-year deal back in February, allowing for a relatively straightforward transfer when any club chooses to fork out the fee.

Elsewhere, INEOS consider Ipswich Town frontman Liam Delap their first-choice centre-forward target heading into the summer. He can leave Portman Road for just £30m if Kieran McKenna’s men are relegated in the coming weeks; they currently sit 18th-placed and 15 points from safety with five games left to play.
