Leon Goretza makes definitive transfer decision amidst Man Utd interest

Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka has reportedly made a definitive decision on his future amidst interest from several clubs, and chief among them Manchester United.

The German started his career at his hometown club of Bochum before joining Schalke in 2013. During his time with the Royal Blues, he emerged as one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga, which earned him a transfer to Bayern Munich in 2018. His former Bochum coach Peter Neururer described him as ‘Germany’s best in the last 50 years’.

Since his move to Bayern, the 30-year-old has cemented himself as a stalwart at the Allianz Arena. Although he had his highs and lows in recent campaigns, the arrival of Vincent Kompany helped him restore his status as an absolute protagonist in the middle of the park. This season, he has thus far made 35 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals in the process.

For their part, Man Utd have been keeping tabs on Goretzka for quite some time now, hoping to pounce on his contract situation to lure him to Carrington.

But in his latest update on CF Bayern Insider, renowned German journalist, Christian Falk, revealed that the midfielder doesn’t intend to leave the Bundesliga leaders this summer.

As the source explains, Goretzka and his entourage are happy to see out his deal which will expire in June 2026. This would allow him to negotiate his own terms with any suitor next year while being untied.

That being said, the source still envisions a future for the player in the Premier League, especially after joining the ROOF agency, which is ‘well-connected to the Premier League’.

So while Goretzka could re-emerge as a potential target for Man Utd in 2026, the club must now find alternative solutions in their quest to bolster the middle of the park.

The Red Devils will part ways with Christian Eriksen, who is running on an expiring deal, and will likely look to offload Casemiro who’s on a £350,000 per week deal. However, the club isn’t being heavily linked with any midfielder in particular.
