Ruben Amorim has been granted a substantial fitness boost on the eve of Manchester United’s Europa League quarter-final first leg.
The Red Devils are undergoing their final training preparations ahead of making the trip to France for tomorrow’s crunch European clash against Olympique Lyonnais.
Neither side head into the tie with form to boast about this season, so will both be pinning their hopes of reigning victorious in the competition, allowing one club to automatically book a Champions League spot.
In terms of the personnel Amorim will be working with, he has welcomed Kobbie Mainoo back to training at Carrington this morning following a two-month layoff for the teenager.
Amorim’s team news for Lyon: Mainoo nearing return to action

Mainoo has been sorely missed amongst the Old Trafford faithful. However, from Amorim’s point of view, he has struggled to determine how to best utilise the ‘exceptional’ midfielder in his newly implemented system. As such, it’ll be worth keeping a close eye on where exactly Mainoo is deployed if he features in some form on Thursday evening.
Elsewhere, defensive duo Ayden Heaven and Matthijs de Ligt miss out, the latter sustained an injury in the 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest eight days ago, while the ex-Arsenal prospect was stretchered off during United’s win over Leicester City prior to the international break. It’s thought his issue isn’t as serious as initially feared, though.
Great to see Kobbie Mainoo back in training, but there was no Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven or Jonny Evans again. Toby Collyer also has a knock and was absent #mufc

Toby Collyer has also picked up a knock and Jonny Evans remains unavailable, having just entered the final two months of his contract. Reports have suggested the veteran centre-half, 37, will hang up his boots at the end of the season and begin trying his hand as a coach – as will be the case with senior goalkeeper Tom Heaton.
