Manchester United are closely monitoring Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta who has been enjoying a brilliant campaign on a personal level.

The Premier League giants are expected to ring changes to their attacking department this summer. After all, Marcus Rashford and Antony have yet to be replaced, and they’re both expected to leave for good in the summer, as neither is in Ruben Amorim’s plans.

Moreover, Rasmus Hojlund is facing an uncertain future due to his shortcomings in front of goal this season. The Dane has only scored three Premier League goals this term.

In recent days, United have emerged as the favourites to land Matheus Cunha. But while the Wolves star would be suitable for the Number 10 role, the squad is still required to sign a centre-forward.

But while Liam Delap is considered the most plausible solution according to several sources, CaughtOffside reveals United are also keeping close tabs on Mateta who has now emerged as a ‘top target for INEOS.

The 27-year-old has scored 17 goals and provided three assists in 40 appearances for Palace this season, making him more prolific than Delap (12 goals and two assists), albeit the latter plays for the struggling Ipswich.

Mateta has also garnered valuable experience in the Premier League over the past few seasons, as he’s been plying his trade at Selhurst Park since 2022. Palace manager Oliver Glasner lauded his deadly skills in front of goal, saying he’s ‘amazing inside the box’.

Nevertheless, the source warns United they could face competition from Bayern Munich for Mateta’s services, with Bayern Munich and Juventus also following the French bomber.

Moreover, the report believes Palace have already resigned to losing the player in the summer, so they have already identified Borussia Monchengladbach’s Alassane Plea as a suitable replacement.
